Why The Best Shops Succeed: Analysis of 2007 Machine Shop Benchmarks
In American Machinist's second annual study of machine shop operating metrics, benchmark shops -- those in the top 20% of financial and operating performance -- spend three times more on tooling than all other shops.
Further, each member of this elite group produces an average of 18 times more units per year than all other shops, even though they are not necessarily larger companies.
These are some of the findings of the study, which provides the only database of industry benchmarks specifically for machine shops -- allowing them to measure, improve and become increasingly competitive.
